The Anatomy of a Second

What is it like in that moment?

First you notice it.

The approach, the lead in, something is happening as your brain takes in our surroundings.

A moment later you realize this is real and it is happening.

The body kicks in.

You are suddenly aware of your heart and the blood pumping through your body.

Your blood has a sound and time stops.

This is at the point most people freeze.

For some, this is where the movement kicks in.

One’s awareness expands almost 360 degrees.

Space becomes more expansive and the thinking mind shuts off.

One is not long thinking, but is observing movement.

The movement of the other people, as movement does not lie.

Hours, seasons, years, or decades of movement kicks in, a combination of muscle memory and transmission from your teacher and past teachers.

Isshi-soden.

One is suddenly moving.

Not fast, not slow.

A feeling of watching oneself, wondering just who is going that.

All this happens in the span of a few seconds at most.
