The Sword at the Temple Door

I knew the question was coming.

That it was only a matter of time.

I would have been lying if I had not enjoyed some of the theories floating around the temple.

I didn’t encourage them, but I didn’t discourage them either.

As the newest member to the group I had to start at the beginning just like anybody else, despite previously being brought through the dramas before.

Lucen had expected some resistance as other had given him in the past, having his talking points ready, surprised that he didn’t need them.

What had been done had been done.

My responsibility required me to stand at the entrance to the temple and symbolically guard it with a sword.

I took my charge very seriously and the others could see that, but they couldn’t figure out where it was coming from.

They knew I had some previous experience, they could see that in how I carried myself and how I pronounced things, evidence being that I had worked those points out some time ago.

Was it something done different in the previous group?

There are always local nuances and a shared way of doing things when a group crystallizes together.

Maybe it was just charisma?

How could it be demonstrated again and again?

I witnessed Lucen trying to unwrap it in his own mind real time.

Maybe if I switched responsibilities for six months?

Be responsible for the other sword?

Inside the temple instead of outside of it?

The mystery deepened as the effect was even more intense.

The fun to some and the mystery to others had gone on long enough and now it had the possibility of disrupting the workings of the temple as it was taking the focus off one thing and placing it on another.

I understood harmony.

Lucen just sat with the answer, as he had no way himself to replicated it.

Not without time and discipline.

I was the only member of the group who knew how to use a sword and what it was capable of.

That extension happened the moment I picked it up, ceremonial or not, and could not be turned off.
